Site Title

An Early Monitoring Receiver
Designed to sit by river with hydrophone extending into water. Logged early coding tags on a Walkman modified to record digital data. Tag coding was ancestor of current Vemco coded tags.

Prior to this biologists had attempted to determine passage of fish at fixed sites in rivers by attaching very long playing analog recorders to hydrophones. This was expensive, unreliable and tedious as it was necessary to listen to hours and hours of tape to hear tag signals.
